Crisis within the OK Movement escalated sharply on Tuesday when its Director-General, High Chief Peter Ameh, formally declared his resignation while in Abuja.
This political shift has left supporters of the Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso National Democratic Congress (NDC) joint presidential platform gripped by uncertainty.
Ameh made his exit official “with immediate effect” in the nation’s capital.
In a letter forwarded to Vanguard, he clarified that his departure aims to channel his full focus toward securing the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections under the banner of the NDC.
He wrote, “I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of the OK Movement, effective immediate.
“This decision will enable me to devote the necessary time and energy to my campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District, where I am the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.”
Nonetheless, the outgoing DG clarified that stepping down does not dilute his backing and allegiance toward the NDC presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, whom he characterized as “My leader.”
Ameh stated, “I humbly accept any individual appointed by my leader to succeed me in this role.”
“I wish to express my profound gratitude to my leader, Mr. Peter Obi, for his exemplary leadership, unwavering integrity, and enduring credibility. These qualities inspired the formation of the OK Movement and have continued to shape its vision and purpose.”
“I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours.”
The organization recently faced internal divisions marked by factional leadership disagreements, with select members openly challenging Ameh’s authority.
As preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle gain momentum, the movement faces urgent pressure to settle its administrative disputes if it intends to maintain political influence.
