The standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the recently wrapped-up Osun State governorship race, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has called on party faithful and loyalists to stay calm and maintain peace in response to the election results.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, contesting via the Accord Party platform, gathered 511,067 votes to outpace Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.
Reaching out to party leaders, members, and supporters throughout the state, Oyebamiji stated that he acknowledges the standing of the electoral commission while fully backing the party’s choice to audit the election results.
He expressed appreciation to all party loyalists, leaders, volunteers, and voters who backed his aspiration, noting that their dedication and sacrifices through the campaign season will always be valued.
“Although, we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.
The APC flagbearer pointed out that the conclusion of the electoral race does not signal an end to the core principles and objectives championed by his campaign platform.
He affirmed that he and his followers will keep pushing toward the “effective, inclusive and rapid development” of Osun State.
He encouraged supporters and party members to stay involved, structured, and dedicated to the shared welfare of the state.
Nevertheless, Oyebamiji voiced deep apprehension regarding what he termed a rising tide of aggression and physical attacks directed at APC supporters following the conclusion of voting.
He claimed that assaults against party affiliates, noted even prior to the vote, have escalated further within the 24-hour window after the polls closed.
“The violence attacks on our members witnessed in the build-up to the election has taken another dimension in the last 24 hours,” he said.
Consequently, he appealed to the Osun State administration, the Nigeria Police Force, and alternative security bodies to act swiftly and put a stop to this “ugly trend.”
While urging his backers to keep the peace, Oyebamiji advised them to carry on with their everyday routines without resorting to retaliatory violence.
He reiterated his appreciation to every individual who cast a ballot for him, alongside the broader network of party stakeholders, executives, and volunteers who powered the campaign.
“I remain proud of the campaign we ran and grateful for the confidence you reposed in me,” he said.
Oyebamiji wrapped up his message by extending his best wishes to his supporters, Osun State, and Nigeria as a whole.
