Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has asserted that Peter Obi diminished his prospects for the 2027 presidential election the moment he transitioned from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Speaking during an appearance on TVC News’ Politics Tonight on Tuesday while evaluating the opposition’s readiness for the upcoming general elections, Fayose contended that this departure fractured the coalition needed to mount a formidable challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“When they were all together in ADC, I would tell anybody that they will make an impact. The day Obi left ADC for NDC, that day Obi lost,” Fayose remarked.

Despite his critique, the former governor lauded Obi as a stellar national figure who has proven his capability, but he warned that persistent disunity among opposition figures will continue to undermine their electoral fortunes. “But when opposition, when they don’t come together, they will continue to lose,” he stated.

Fayose further noted that the electoral timeline has advanced too far for any corrective maneuvers, pointing out that the Independent National Electoral Commission has already accredited the contenders.

“It’s too late now,” he emphasized, adding, “INEC has accredited everybody. Even if you say you are not doing again, you’re on your own. You have put your feet in the water. You can’t get out. You have gotten wet already.”
