Presidency Reverses Appointment Of Ambassador To Turkey

The Presidency has retracted the nomination of Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman as Nigeria’s envoy to Turkey, just hours after the initial announcement.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had previously confirmed the selection of four ambassadors on Thursday night, which included the former Governor of Kebbi State.

At the time, Onanuga had stated, “Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former governor of Kebbi, is the ambassador-designate to Turkey.”

This particular appointment was considered high-priority as President Bola Tinubu is expected to travel to the country shortly.

However, the spokesperson quickly released a corrective statement to cancel the decision.

“Please note that there was a naming mix-up for the ambassador-designate to Turkey. The posting is undergoing review. Thanks for your understanding,” Onanuga clarified.

Despite the reversal for the Turkish post, the Presidency confirmed that there was “no alteration to the posting of other ambassadors-designate made in his previous statement.”

The diplomatic representatives whose status remains unchanged include Ayodele Oke (France), Lateef Are (United States), and Amin Dalhatu (United Kingdom).

The spokesman noted that President Tinubu has already sent a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instructing officials to “notify the governments of the three countries about the ambassadors-designate, in accordance with diplomatic procedures.
